Challenges of Homeschooling

CAN most ALL ATEST??  I cannot be the only one!

I know for myself, as a Mother of a Kindergartener I had no idea how much fun I was going to have, homeschooling.  After taking him out of Catholic School his first few months as an actual student, I decided I could do this.  How hard could it be?  I started to realize that my child could be playing me and wants me to do all the darn work!  As his coach, I feel like what the heck, the assignments are super hard anyway & I just want to breeze through.  Then, I had to come to realization, I want my son to be kick ass in every which way, not just while he is picking his favorite You-Tube picks.  Now, it is time to be Mommy Dearest.  Now, where the heck is that wire hanger.  No, I am just joshing.  Imagine that!  We certainly would not be in half as much trouble as we are in today if that were a reality in today’s day.  But, anyway back to the topic.  Homeschooling SUCKS!  That was another supposedly funny gesture.

Another common difficulty is that children often do not want to put forth as much effort for their mom or dad as they would for a teacher who is not their parent.  This is especially true of kids who attended traditional school/private school for a while and then transitioned into home education.  I was surprised and confused in the first weeks when my own children– who previously attended school for eight hours a day and completed one hour or more of homework each night– cringed when I asked them to do the simplest of assignments.  They did not take me very seriously at first.  Or perhaps they did not take homeschooling very seriously.  Let me just say after a day with these guys, I most certainly resort to my meditation music FORREAL.  Now, my two-year old is all game.  And please I am praying she stays as motivated as she is now.  There is nothing wrong with being that cute nerd that everybody cheats off on their Math/Science test.  Let me just say, this quarantined classroom thing is more involved than my darn remote job I am getting paid from.  But, let me just tell you.  I refuse to let my kid lose or just stand there and watch him.  With this foundation, we gone make it!  Or at least I am going to die trying!

Foundation

I feel like foundation has plentiful meaning and felt the need to share. I have been so busy these days, that I often forget to simply just sit and smell the roses. I have promised myself that I would lay down the foundation for my family. I see now how that seems meaningless to some but me I have huge dreams and hopes for my kids. I am laying that foundation all the way down. I couldn't help but to chuckle when my seven year old asked me what foundation meant. I knew he was referring to the make-up, only simply because Riley (four-year old) wanted to know if my concealor was foundation. However, I knew that it was necessary for him to know the meaning of the the foundation that I am talking about. It just happens to be "Martin Luther King Jr. Day" So, I felt it is so meaningful to exercise that term, as it is so appropriate in todays day, more than ever. Our history is so important and I strive to continue to lay that foundation for my children that will help t...
